SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team is back at Dumke Field this weekend for a pair of contests. Westminster will welcome College of Idaho to Salt Lake City on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game. They will then open Frontier Conference play against Great Falls (Mont.) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Both games will be streamed live on Griffins TV and be carried on Comcast 6 in northern Utah. Live stats will also be available for both of this weekend's games. Links for the live features can be found in the calendar section of WestminsterGriffins.com.
GRIFFIN NOTEBOOK
The Griffins enter the week at 3-5 on the season after a pair of losses to ranked team during last week's trip to Kentucky. They have gone 3-1 at Dumke Field this season and outscored the opposition 9-1 in those contests. Westminster has split six games against non-ranked opponents while winning two straight games in that situation.
Westminster is scoring 1.25 goals per game while taking 12.8 shots per outing. They manage 52.9 percent of those shots on goal while also picking up three assists. The Griffins have scored five goals in each half this season with 57 shots coming in the first half.
The Griffin opposition has scored nine goals for an average of 1.12 goals per game. They take 7.0 shots per game while putting 55.4 percent of those attempts on frame. Westminster has held the opposition to just 23 shots in the first half and only two goals in the first 45 minutes.
AGAINST THE OPPOSITION
Westminster holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series against College of Idaho. The Griffins have won three straight in the series and are 2-2 in games played at Dumke Field. Westminster claimed a 4-0 win at Dumke Field in last season's meeting.
The Griffins are 12-0 all-time in games with Great Falls. They have won all six games in SLC, including a 4-1 win last season. Westminster has recorded nine shutouts in the 12 meetings with seven straight from 2008-2011.
LOOKING BACK
Westminster saw its two-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-0 loss against 14th-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) last Friday. Both goals came during a six minute stretch in the second half.
Jamie Wilkinson suffered the loss in goal.
The Griffins then dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Saturday. Westminster was outshot 10-5 in the game and they only had three shots on goal.
Abi Yanke made her first start of the season in goal and posted five saves.
PLAYING THEM CLOSE
With eight games in the books this season, five of them have been one-goal games. Westminster has gone 2-3 in those contests and 2-1 at home in that situation. All five one-goal games came in a five game stretch that was snapped in last Friday's loss to Martin Methodist.
GET THEM FIRST & EARLY
All three wins by the Griffins this season have come when they score first. They are also 2-0 when leading at the 75th minute and 1-0 when reaching the final 15 minutes tied. In contrast, the Griffins are 0-5 when the opposition scores first and 0-5 when trailing at the 75th minute.
WINNER FROM TUCKER
Senior
Lexi Tucker has notched two goals this season with both of them being a game-winner. Her 89th minute goal against Oregon Tech is the latest goal scored by a Griffin this season, and is tied for the latest regulation game-winner in school history. She then came back for a goal in the 75th minute which also became the game-winner versus Midland.
Tucker currently leads the team with 20 shots taken and 12 shots on goal. She has also recorded a team-best two assists and is tied for the team lead with six points.
THREE FOR HARRIS
Senior
Jessica Harris is the team's leading scorer this season with three goals. She opened the year with a double in the season-opener against Jamestown and then snapped a 190-minute scoring drought by the Griffins when she scored at St. Francis (Ill.).
Harris entered the season with four career goals and only one since the start of the 2011 campaign. She has matched her career high of three goals set during her freshman campaign on 2010.
MINER ANCHORS THE BACK
Junior Miranda Miner is the anchor of the Griffin back line. After leading the team with 1,640 minutes played in 2012, Miner has played a team-high 698 minutes through the first eight games this season. She has yet to miss a game during her three seasons as a Griffin, appearing in all 46 games the team has played with 42 starts.
IN NET WITH WILKINSON
Jamie Wilkinson has made seven starts in goal this season and recorded a 3-4 record. The junior has made 17 saves with a .708 save percentage. She has a 1.00 goals-against-average with two shutouts.
Wilkinson has made 55 saves in her Griffin career and is fourth in school history in that category. Her career .775 save percentage is third-best at Westminster and she is second in school history with a 1.00 goals-against-average.
