Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team suffered a second straight loss at home on Sunday afternoon as they fell 1-0 to Midland (Neb.) in double overtime at Dumke Field.
Alan Craig scored the game's only goal in the second period of overtime as he dribbled around the defender and slid a shot just past the Westminster (2-2) keeper for the victory. It was just the second shot of the overtime for Midland (3-1) and it came in the 106th minute.
The game was played fairly even throughout the afternoon with Midland taking 13 shots in the game while the Griffins attempted 11 shots. Westminster put six of those attempts on goal, including three in the overtime periods. Westminster held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks and they were whistled for 19 fouls while suffering 15.
Ryan Smith took seven of the Griffins 11 shots and out four of them on frame. He had a chance late in regulation from a free kick that was turned away and then another strike in overtime was right at the Midland keeper.
Connor Thompson took two shots with one on goal.
Logan Butzier made eight saves in goal, but took his first loss of the season.
Westminster will conclude this season-opening five-game home stand on Monday when they host No. 4 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at noon at Dumke Field.
