Bellevue Knocks Off Griffins 2-0 at Dumke

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team lost for the first time this season by falling to Bellevue (Neb.) 2-0 on Friday evening at Dumke Field.

Bellevue (1-2) opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Ryan Beasley beat a defender and took a through ball from Corey Smith in the box. He then fired a shot into the back of the net to give the visiting Bruins the lead.  The game would remain at 1-0 into the 77th minute when Rob Jackson collected a loose ball in the penalty area and put his shot in the net for the two goal advantage.

Each team took nine shots in the contest with the Griffins (2-1) putting three of their attempts on goal. Ryan Smith led all players with five shots and two shots on goal. Connor Thompson also managed two shots for the Griffins. Westminster took nine corner kicks and suffered 12 Bellevue fouls.

Keaton Gallegos made his first career start in net for the Griffins, but took the loss despite making two saves.

Westminster will return to Dumke Field on Sunday when they welcome Midland (Neb.) to town for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
