Griffins Clinch No. 4 Seed with 75-57 Victory

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's basketball team concluded the regular season with a 75-57 win over Montana Tech on Saturday night in the Behnken Field House.

Westminster completes the regular season at 22-7 overall and they earn the No. 4 seed in the Frontier Conference Tournament by finishing 9-6 in the league. Montana Tech drops to 15-15 overall and 6-10 in the Frontier with the loss.

The Griffins would lead the game wire-to-wire after scoring the first five points of the game. They used an 8-2 run midway through the first half capped with a Jake Orchard tip-in to hold a 10-point lead. Montana tech would get back within 24-22 at the 3:20 mark of the first half, but a Blake Skidmore three with 29 seconds to play before intermission would help the Griffins to a 30-25 lead at the break.

Leading by eight with 17:19 remaining, Westminster put together a 16-4 stretch that grew the lead to 20. It started with a Colton Moon three and was capped with a Jordan Bjornberg and-one that made it 53-33 with 9:58 remaining. Tech would close to within nine when Moon made his seventh trey of the game to halt any thought of a comeback from the visitors.

Westminster finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field thanks to their 61.9 percent shooting in the second half. They held a 33-29 edge on the glass and scored 30 points in the paint. The Griffins scored 25 points from the 20 Tech turnovers and they had 18 assists on 23 made field goals.

Moon's seven threes led to a career-high 21 points. He also came up with four assists, two steals and committed zero turnovers. Bjornberg added 15 points in his first start of the season with fellow senior Drecksel adding 11 and six boards. Orchard finished with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in his final regular season home game.

Bryan Bock led Montana tech with 14 points and five assists. Reid Baerlocher finished with 12 points and Daniel Simon added 10.

Westminster will host the Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in the quarterfinals of the Frontier Conference Tournament. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. from the Behnken Field House on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
