SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team returns to Montana for the final road trip of the regular season this weekend. Westminster begins the trip at Nelson Stadium to face Carroll (Mont.) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Griffins then visit Great Falls (Mont.) at the Siebel Soccer Park on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The game on Friday will be streamed live and have live stats available. Links for each of the live features can be found in the calendar section of WestminsterGriffins.com.
GRIFFIN NOTEBOOK
Westminster begins the final road trip of the season at 6-6-1 on the season and they are 1-0-1 in Frontier Conference play. They have gone 0-3-1 in road games this season and are 0-4-1 in all games away from Dumke Field. The Griffins are 6-3-1 when playing an unranked team.
The Griffins have scored 20 goals on the year for an average of 1.54 goals per game. They have scored 10 goals in the first half and 10 in the second half with 11 assists on the 20 goals. Westminster averages 13.3 shots per game and they put 52 percent of those on goal.
Westminster opponents have scored 11 goals with six assists for an average of 0.85 goals per game. The Griffins have surrendered eight of those goals after halftime with 44 of the 82 shot attempts coming after intermission. Westminster goalies have recorded 33 saves with a .750 save percentage.
AGAINST THE OPPOSITION
Carroll holds a 9-3-2 all-time lead against Westminster. The Griffins are winless in eight trips to Nelson Stadium and only have been outscored 24-6 in those games. The last meeting was a 2-0 win by Westminster at Dumke Field last October with Carroll claiming a 3-2 in last season's game in Helena.
Westminster is a perfect 13-0 all-time against Great Falls, including a 4-0 win last month at Dumke Field. In six games on the road in the series, Westminster has outscored the Argonauts 12-3.
LOOKING BACK
After falling behind Rocky Mountain (Mont.) with an own goal in the first minute, Westminster came back to earn a 1-1 draw last Sunday. Miranda Miner scored her second goal of the season in the 58th minute with an assist from
Brianna Wilson. The Griffins had a 10-6 edge in shots with eight of those attempts on goal while
Abi Yanke made five saves in goal.
GET THEM FIRST & EARLY
Until Sunday, every game this season had been won by the team that scores first. Westminster is 6-0 when they score first and 0-6-1 when the opponent scores first. The Griffins are also 4-0 when leading at halftime and 6-1 when leading or tied at the 75-minute mark.
LEADS FROM TUCKER
Senior
Lexi Tucker leads the team with 10 points and she is tied for fifth in the league at 0.77 points per game. Tucker has a team-high four assists and is one of three players on the team with three goals on the season. She has taken 32 shots with 18 of those on goal and she leads the team in both categories.
CARTER GETTING HOT
Nicole Carter leads the team with four goals as play begins this week. She scored three of those four goals during a four-game span last month with two of them being game-winners. Carter has taken 20 shots with 12 on goals and also has one assist and nine points.
THREE FOR HARRIS
Senior
Jessica Harris is one of the three on the squad with three goals. She opened the year with a double in the season-opener against Jamestown and then snapped a 190-minute scoring drought by the Griffins when she scored at St. Francis (Ill.). Harris entered the season with four career goals and only one since the start of the 2011 campaign. She has matched her career high of three goals set during her freshman campaign on 2010.
MINER ANCHORS THE MIDFIELD
Junior Miranda Miner is the anchor of the Griffin midfield. After leading the team with 1,640 minutes played in 2012, Miner has played a team-high 1,123 minutes this season. She has yet to miss a game during her three seasons as a Griffin, appearing in all 51 games the team has played with 47 starts. After scoring her first career goal against Great Falls in Sept., Miner scored at Rocky Mountain to earn the team a 1-1 draw.
GOALIES SPLITTING TIME
Jamie Wilkinson has made seven starts in goal this season and recorded a 3-4 record. The junior has made 17 saves with a .708 save percentage. She has a 1.00 goals-against-average with two shutouts.
Abi Yanke has started the past six games going 3-2-1 with three shutouts. She has been named the Frontier's Defensive Player of the Week three times and has a 0.64 goals-against-average and 16 saves this season. Yanke had a stretch of 356 minutes without allowing a goal snapped in the loss to Cal State San Marcos.
