Volleyball Host UGF and Northern in Final Two Home Matches

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's volleyball team is at home for the final two times this week. Westminster welcomes Great Falls (Mont.) into the Behnken Field House for a 7 p.m. MDT match on Thursday. The Griffins then host 24th-ranked Montana State-Northern on Saturday at 2 p.m. MDT for Senior Day.

Both matches will be carried live on Griffins TV and on Comcast 6 in northern Utah. Lance Barton will handle the play-by-play duties with former Griffin Brittani Barton as the analyst. GRIFFIN NOTEBOOK
Westminster completes its home schedule with a 13-12 overall mark and in fourth place in the Frontier Conference race with a 7-5 record. The Griffins have won two straight and five of their last seven. They are 7-3 at home this season and 4-1 at home in Frontier Conference matches.

The Griffins average 12.41 kills per set while hitting .188 for the season. Over the past nine matches they are hitting .217 while averaging 14.06 kills per set. They currently sit second in the Frontier in kills per set and assists per set with an average of 11.34. Westminster is fifth in the Frontier with 121 service aces and fourth by averaging 1.23 aces per set.

Westminster is holding the opposition to .166 hitting efficiency and 11.4 kills per set. They have posted more kills than the opposition in 16 matches with a 12-4 record. The Griffins rank 47th in the NAIA by posting 2.02 blocks per set and they also collect 16.06 digs per set.

AGAINST THE OPPOSITION
Westminster is 15-10 all-time against Great Falls after taking a 3-1 win on the road last month. The Griffins have gone 8-3 in home matches against the Argonauts. They have won five of the past six meetings in Salt Lake City.

The Griffins hold a 17-4 edge in the all-time series with MSU-Northern. The Sky Lights have won two straight in the series, including a 3-0 sweep in Havre, Mont. last month. The Griffins are 9-1 in SLC in the series and they have won nine straight home meetings.

AALONA ON THE ATTACK
Outside hitter Alexis Aalona is averaging 2.94 kills per set to rank sixth in the Frontier Conference. She has been the team leader in kills in 16 matches and 15 times reached double figures in kills. Aalona matched her career high with 23 kills in the loss to Montana Tech and also posted 22 in the home win over Carroll (Mont.). She has 675 kills in her career to rank fifth in school history while her 288 kills this season is the ninth-most for a single season at Westminster.

Aalona also leads the team with 11 double-doubles and is second on the team with 291 digs. She has been in double figures in digs in 15 matches with back-to-back 20-dig matches at Dickinson State (N.D.) and Rocky Mountain (Mont.). The junior is 10th in school history with 597 career digs.

ALL ABOUT ATKINSON
Senior Emily Atkinson has recorded 767 assists this season and she is second in the Frontier with an average of 7.83 assists per set. In the match against Cornerstone (Mich.), Atkinson became the Westminster career leader in assists as she notched her 2,810th career assist. She enters this weekend with 3,503 career helpers.

Atkinson ranks third on the team with 193 digs and she has posted seven double-doubles. She has been in double figures in digs during seven matches, including a season-high 15 at Montana Western. Atkinson is tied for the team lead with 32 service aces and became the Westminster all-time leader in that category against Rocky Mountain on Oct. 11. She begins this week's action with 113 career aces while her 32 for the current season is tied for ninth-most at Westminster.

DIGGING WITH KORDAKIS
Senor libero Kyndall Kordakis has notched 506 digs on the season to sit second in the Frontier and 35th in the NAIA. Her average of 5.16 digs per set in second in the league and 27th nationally. She has been the team leader in digs in 24 matches the team has played and 13 times she has reached 20 digs.

Kordakis used 12 digs at Dickinson State on Oct. 17 to reach 1,713 in her career and surpass Bree Riet as the Westminster all-time leader. Kordakis enters the weekend with 1,806 career digs.  Her 506 digs this season ranks third in school history for a single season and she is just the third Griffin to surpass 500 digs in a season.

REJECTED BY RAMIREZ
Junior Mayra Ramirez has recorded a team-best 91 blocks this season and she is averaging 0.95 blocks per set to rank tied for fourth in the Frontier. Ramirez has led or tied for the team lead in blocks during 16 matches and she has totaled at least five blocks in nine matches. Her 91 blocks this season rank fifth in school history for a single season and 80 block assists places fifth for a season.

Ramirez has also been efficient on the offensive end. She leads the squad with a .271 hitting efficiency while averaging 2.09 kills per set. In conference matches, Ramirez is averaging 2.44 kills per set and hitting .284 with 36 blocks. Ramirez was named to the Julie Martin Memorial Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 1.86 kills and 0.86 blocks per set during the four matches. She hit .231 during the weekend and also picked up six digs.

SISOVIC IS SCORCHING
Senior Jovana Sisovic enters the week with 186 kills to rank third on the team. She is eighth in the Frontier Conference with a .238 hitting efficiency while also ranking 10th in blocks with 61. Sisovic has recorded double figures in kills in each of the past three matches and eight times this season. Over the past six matches, Sisovic is averaging 3.45 kills per set and hitting .297 with 15 blocks.

FRONTIER CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
The 2013 Frontier Conference Tournament will take place Nov. 14-16 at the McLaughlin Center on the University of Great Falls campus. All nine team will qualify for the event with the opening round between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds being played at 5 p.m. on the 14th. Four quarterfinals matches are slated for Nov. 15 with the semi-finals and championship taking place on Nov. 16.

If the tournament started today, Westminster would be the No. 4 seed and face Montana Tech in a quarterfinal match at 2 p.m. Montana State-Northern is currently the conference leader with a perfect 12-0 mark.

Westminster completes the regular season with a pair of road matches. They visit Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. MST before facing Montana Tech on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. MST.
