Volleyball Sweeps Rocky as Atkinson Sets Aces Record

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's volleyball team cruised a 3-0 sweep over Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in a Frontier Conference match on Friday night in the Behnken Field House.

Westminster evened its record on the season at 10-10 overall while improving to 4-3 in league matches with the 25-17, 25-18, 25-13 victory. The loss drops Rocky Mountain to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the Frontier.

The Griffins would come through with a huge offensive night as they notched 44 kills and hit .314 for the match. They got started early by hitting .324 in the opening set behind 17 kills. Alexis Aalona had five kills in the set and she hit .714 with three service aces. Jovana Sisovic also had five kills in the set.

The offense continued in the second set as the team racked up 16 kills to hit .333. Aalona added another six kills in the frame while also picking up eight digs. Sisovic had four kills in the set with Alyse Horton adding three. The Griffins would close out the match by hitting .276 in the final stanza with 11 kills. Aalona added another five kills while Emily Atkinson notched three service aces.

Those three aces from Atkinson went with two from the second set and gave her 109 for her career and moved her to the top of the career charts in that category at Westminster. She was stellar all evening as she dished out 30 assists to go with three kills and five digs.

Aalona finished the match with 16 kills and hitting .379. The junior used 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Sisovic finished with 10 kills and five blocks while hitting .368. Kyndall Kordakis finished with 16 digs and sits 21 shy of becoming the school's all-time leader.

Westminster had a 44-27 edge in total kills and held Rocky to .098 hitting with eight blocks and 40 digs.  They matched a season-high with 10 aces and forced Rocky into negative-.074 hitting in the third set.

Yang Yang led Rocky with nine kills and .263 hitting. She also posted two blocks and six digs. Ahlea Billis and Kylie Nielson had six kills apiece.

The Griffins look to continue this run on Saturday when they face Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). First serve from the Behnken Field House is slated for 2 p.m. MDT.
