Box Score CALGARY, Alberta – The Westminster College men's basketball team opened the 2013—14 season with a 76-63 win over Mount Royal at Kenyon Court during the first game of the Calgary Cup. This is the 12th straight season that Westminster (1-0) has won its season opener.
The Griffins started slowly on offense but were able to take a 32-31 lead into halftime despite 38.2 percent shooting. They responded in the second half to shoot 55.2 percent from the field while outscoring Mount Royal by 12 during the first 10 minutes of the half.
Tallon Robertson finished the night with 20 points and a career-best 11 rebounds for the fourth double-double of his career. He shot 7-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-9 at the foul line with two assists and one steal.
Blake Skidmore added 19 points, six rebounds, and five steals.
Jordan Hamilton scored 12 points with seven rebounds.
Awet Abraha led Mount Royal with 17 points and Deng Awak posted 15 points.
The Griffins remain in Canada for two more games with a Friday contest with Alberta at 4 p.m. from Jack Simpson Court on the University of Calgary campus.
