Volleyball Begins Four-Match Home Stand on Friday

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's volleyball team returns to the Behnken Field House this weekend to open up a four-match home stand.  Westminster welcomes Great Falls (Mont.) to town on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Montana State-Northern on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Both matches this weekend will be carried live on Griffins TV and each will also have live stats available. Fans can find links for both of these features at WestminsterGriffins.com.

Westminster begins play this week with a 9-5 overall record. They are 2-1 in the Frontier Conference after splitting two matches at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and Montana Tech last week. The 2-1 league mark has them tied for third with Carroll (Mont.) on the Frontier standings.

The Griffins continue to receive votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll that was released on Tuesday. Westminster was listed among the other teams receiving votes with 11 points. They have now received votes in each of the previous three polls. Westminster also sits at No. 30 in the current edition of the Massey Ratings.

Ashley Marchant currently leads the team with 131 kills while hitting .228. She has recorded five matches with double figures in kills and has four double-doubles. The senior has also tallied 133 digs and 18 service aces and ranks in the Frontier top 20 in seven of the 11 statistical categories.

Alexis Aalona is second on the team with 98 kills and is followed closely by Katie Vance with 81 kills. Freshman Rachel Enloe leads the team with her .245 hitting efficiency behind 37 kills on 94 swings. Emily Atkinson runs the offense with 457 assists and also has a team-best 22 service aces.

Kyndall Kordakis leads the defense with 218 digs and ranks third in the Frontier at 4.19 digs per set. Marchant's 133 digs rank second on the team and Atkinson is third with 127. Stephanie Jones Morin has posted a team-high 34 blocks with Vance adding 25 to rank second.

Inside the Series
Friday's match will mark the 23rd meeting between Westminster and Great Falls with the Griffins holding a 14-8 advantage.  UGF won the last meeting in a 3-0 sweep on Nov. 11, 2011 to snap a four-match winning streak by the Griffins.

Westminster enters Saturday's match with MSU-Northern riding a 16-match winning streak in the series. The Griffins are 16-2 all-time against the Sky Lights and haven't lost in the series since Nov. 1, 2003.
