Westminster Plays York and Arizona Christian at Home This Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team will return to Dumke Field for two games this weekend. Westminster will begin the weekend on Friday against York College at 4 p.m. They come back to face Arizona Christian on Sunday at noon. York and Arizona Christian will play at Dumke Field on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Griffin Notebook
Westminster enters the weekend with a 3-2-1 overall record. They went 0-1-1 during a road trip last weekend. The Griffins played then-No. 24 Benedictine (Kan.) to a 0-0 tie on Saturday before dropping a 3-0 decision at Bellevue (Neb.) on Sunday.

The Griffins are 3-1 at home this season and have outscored the opposition 8-5 in those games. They are 2-0 this season when leading at halftime and 3-1 when they attempt more shots. The team is averaging 1.33 goals per contest and attempt 12.8 shots per outing. The Griffins have put 26 of their 77 total shots on goal with six assists. The opposition is attempting 6.5 shots per outing with 23 shots on goal.

Ryan Smith currently leads the team with eight points. The junior forward gas a team-best three goals while also picking up two assists. Smith leads the team with 13 shots and five shots on goal. Wilson Larson has five points behind one goal and a team-leading three assists. Jace Maxfield, Anthony Alcox and Bryan Rucklos have all scored one goal.

Damir Sabanovic has played the majority of time on goal with a 1.23 goals against average. He has recorded two wins in the five games with three shutouts and 11 saves. Nathan Young has a 1.48 GAA in two games with four saves and one win.

Scouting York
York College enters the week at 2-3-1 on the year. They play a home game against Doane (Neb.) on Wednesday evening before making the trip to Salt Lake City. York is averaging 1.17 goals per game while attempting 11.8 shots. Their opponents are scoring 1.83 goals per outing. Chase Craddock leads the team with two goals.

Scouting Arizona Christian
Arizona Christian begins the week at 1-2-1 overall after a 3-0 win over Cal maritime on Sunday. They have a game at home against Simpson (Calif.) on Wednesday before traveling to Utah. The Firestorm are currently scoring 1.5 goals per game on 9.75 shots. The defense is allowing 2.25 goals per contest. Kenny Sale has scored a team-high two goals.

Against the Opposition
The Griffins are 4-0 all-time in games against York. Westminster won the meeting last season, 3-0, in Nebraska. The last time York played in Salt Lake City, Westminster won the game, 6-1, on Sept. 5, 2002.

Westminster is also a perfect 4-0 against Arizona Christian. The last meeting was a Griffins 3-0 win in Arizona on Oct. 28 of last season. ACU will be making its first trip to SLC since a 4-1 loss on Sept. 27, 2009.
