Griffins Open Conference Tournament against Carroll

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's volleyball team heads to Butte, Mont. for the Frontier Conference this weekend. Westminster is the No. 7 seed in the tournament and will face second-seeded Carroll (Mont.) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m. Should they advance, the Griffins would face the winner between Great Falls (Mont.) and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday night.

All matches will be played at Sampson Court on the campus of Montana Tech. All matches will have live stats available and be streamed live with links for both features available at WestminsterGriffins.com.

Westminster completed the regular season at 14-12 overall and finished 7-8 in Frontier Conference action. They split two matches last week, losing at Carroll in four sets before a 3-1 win over Montana Tech on Saturday to conclude the year.

The Griffins finished the season at 2-7 on the road this season, but went 3-3 in neutral site games. They have dropped five straight away from the Behnken Field House with the last win coming at Montana Tech on Sept. 15. Saturday's win snapped a five-match losing skid overall and led them to a 9-2 record in home matches this season.

Senior Ashley Marchant is tops on the squad with 283 kills and ranks eighth in the Frontier at 2.8 kills per set. Marchant is hitting .195 on the season with 14 matches in double figures in kills. She also leads the conference in service aces at 0.41 per set and needs just three more aces to break the school record for aces in a single season. Marchant has recorded seven straight matches with at least 10 kills and 16 matches overall. She also has posted 11 double-doubles this year.

Alexis Aalona is second on the team with 229 kills with Katie Vance ranking third with 162 kills. Emily Atkinson has 975 assists to sit just 25 away from becoming the third player in school history to reach 1,000 assists in a single season. The junior has 12 double-doubles on the year and 28 in her career, including two straight.

Kyndall Kordakis leads the team with 466 digs and is third in the league at 4.76 per set. The junior libero has recorded at least 10 digs in each of the last 13 matches she has played with 21 double-digit-dig matches on the season. Stephanie Jones Morin leads all Griffins with 77 blocks and is seventh in the Frontier at 0.79 blocks per set.

Against the Opposition
Carroll leads the series against Westminster 15-8. The Griffins claimed a 3-2 win over the Saints in the Behnken Field House on Sept. 29 to snap a seven-match losing streak in the series. Carroll took a four-set win over the Griffins last Thursday. The last meeting at the conference tournament was a 3-0 sweep by Carroll in the quarterfinals of the 2008 tournament in Lewiston, Idaho.
