Tallon Robertson scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds, lifting No. 13 Westminster College to their eighth Golden Rule Shoot-Out title, defeating The College of Idaho, 68-50, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
After the Coyotes (3-5) used a Zach Peterson three-pointer to erase a nine-point deficit and tie the game at 25-25, the squad from Salt Lake City, Robertson had a pair of baskets in a 10-0 run, helping Westminster (6-1) take a 35-29 lead at the break.
A Ben Van Lith lay-up got the Yotes within 46-37 with 9:32 remaining, but a
Jake Orchard three and an Orchard steal and basket fueled a 10-2 run that gave the Griffins (6-1) their largest lead of the night and coasted to the win.
Orchard had 12 points and eight rebounds and
Blake Skidmore had 12 points for Westminster in the victory.
The Coyotes got 11 points from Sydney Donaldson, with Antonio Garrett coming off the bench to score nine points and adding 11 rebounds. The C of I held a 42-41 edge on the glass, but made just 10-of-23 free throws in the loss.
Westminster will now return home to play host to the Westminster Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 23-24. They open against No. 20 Cal State San Marcos at 7 p.m. on Friday.
