SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's volleyball team will complete the 2012 regular season with two matches this week. Westminster begins the action on Thursday when they travel to Helena, Mont. to face Carroll (Mont.) at 7 p.m. in the Carroll PE Center. The Griffins will then return home for a Senior Day match against Montana Tech at 2 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
Fans will be able to watch both matches online with Griffins TV carrying Saturday's match. Live stats will also be available for both matches. Links for all of the live features can be found at WestminsterGriffins.com.
Griffin Notebook
Westminster enters the final week of the regular season at 13-11 overall and 6-7 in Frontier Conference play. They are in a bit of a slide having dropped four straight matches for the first time this season. The Griffins dropped road matches at Great Falls (Mont.) and Montana State-Northern last weekend.
The Griffins have gone 2-6 in road matches this season and are 5-9 overall away from home. In contrast, they have put together an 8-2 home mark heading into Saturday's home finale. Westminster is a perfect 8-0 when holding a 2-0 lead in a match this year and 12-2 when they win the first set.
Senior
Ashley Marchant is tops on the squad with 263 kills and ranks sixth in the Frontier at 2.83 kills per set. Marchant is hitting .202 on the season with 13 matches in double figures in kills. She also leads the conference in service aces at 0.4 per set and needs just seven more aces to break the school record for aces in a single season. Marchant is also tied for the team lead with 10 double-doubles thanks to 14 double-digit-dig matches.
Alexis Aalona is second on the team with 202 kills with
Katie Vance ranking third with 151 kills.
Emily Atkinson has 885 assists to sit just 115 away from becoming the third player in school history to reach 1,000 assists in a single season. The junior has 10 double-doubles on the year and 26 in her career.
Kyndall Kordakis leads the team with 407 digs and is third in the league at 4.52 per set. The junior libero has recorded at least 10 digs in each of the last 11 matches she has played with 19 double-digit-dig matches on the season.
Stephanie Jones Morin leads all Griffins with 73 blocks and is seventh in the Frontier at 0.81 blocks per set.
Against the Opposition
Carroll leads the series against Westminster 14-8. The Griffins claimed a 3-2 win over the Saints in the Behnken Field House on Sept. 29 to snap a seven-match losing streak in the series. Westminster hasn't won in Helena since Nov. 7, 2008.
The Griffins have a 17-7 lead in the all-time series against Montana Tech. Westminster claimed a 3-1 win over Tech in Butte on Sept. 15. They have now won three straight in the series and 10 of the last 12 meetings.
