Women’s Soccer Plays Host to Two Ranked Teams

SALT LAKE CITY – The 23rd-ranked Westminster College women's soccer team will return to Dumke Field for two games against ranked opponents this weekend. Westminster will begin play on Friday when they host No. 10 Cal State San Marco (Calif.) at noon. The Griffins will then host No. 20 Carroll (Mont.) in a Frontier Conference game on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Westminster returns home at 9-2 overall this season and 1-1 in the Frontier Conference. They dropped a 3-2 decision at Carroll on Sunday afternoon. They are currently in third place in the Frontier Conference standings, but sit just one game behind Carroll for the top spot.

The Griffins have posted a 6-0 mark at home this season and outscored the opposition 22-3 in those games. They are unbeaten in 11 straight at home dating back to last season with 10 wins. The lone tie during that stretch was a 0-0 game against Carroll in the last season's Frontier/Cal Pac Tournament Championship in which the Griffins won in penalty kicks.

Westminster is averaging 2.82 goals per game this season and have tallied 25 assists on 31 scored goals. They are attempting 16.4 shots per outing with 98 shots on goal. The hold the opposition to 1.18 goals per game and have recorded four shutouts. Westminster opponents average 9.2 shots per game and have put 52 shots on goal.

Sophomore forward Rylei North has scored a team-best nine goals this season. She also leads the way with 19 points and three game-winning strikes. Margo Hickman has a school-record seven assists and her four goals give her 15 points on the year.

Jaime Nelson and Alyssa Hill have scored four goals apiece. Nelson has five assists to rank third on the club with 13 points. Justine Jones leads the team with 39 shots and 21 shots on goal while scoring three goals and adding trhee assists. Amanda peppers and Carissa Cooper have two goals each.

Jamie Wilkinson and Dayna Winter-Nolte have been splitting time in goal this season. Wilkinson has a 5-0 record with two shutouts and 14 saves. She has a 0.78 GAA and a 77.8 save percentage.. Winter-Nolte has made 24 saves with a 1.42 GAA. She is 4-2 overall and has posted two shutouts.

Against the Opposition
Westminster and Cal State San Marcos have split two meetings all-time. San Marcos won 3-0 in 2008 with the Griffins taking a 1-0 win last season. Friday will mark the first time the two teams have played in Salt Lake City.

Carroll leads the all-time series against Westminster with a record of 10-2-2. The Griffins are 2-1-2 all-time against the Saints at Dumke Field, including the 0-0 tie in the conference championships game last season. Carroll's lone win in SLC was in 2008.
