Men’s Soccer Home for Two Games

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer returns to Dumke Field for two games this weekend. Westminster will face Trinity Lutheran at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. They will come back on Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. game against Ashford.

Both games will be carried live on Griffins TV and have Live Stats available. Fans can find links for both Griffins TV and the stats at WestminsterGriffins.com.

Westminster returns home with a 7-4-1 record after a 2-2 road trip. They are 4-2 in their last six games and have scored at least one goal in six straight. The Griffins are 5-1 at home this season and outscored the opposition 13-3 in the five wins.

The Griffins have been good at hold a lead this season and are 5-0 when they hold a halftime advantage. That recorded extends to 6-0-1 when they are ahead or tied after 45 minutes. Westminster is also 6-2 on the year when they attempt more shots than the opposition and have gone 4-1 in games played on Sunday.

The team is averaging 1.75 goals per game and has outscored their opponents 21-17 this season. The Griffins have 14 assists on those 21 goals and have scored on two penalty kicks. They are attempting 14.6 shots per game and have 67 shots on goal. They defense allows 8.3 shots per game and 59 shots on goal.

Ryan Smith leads the Griffins with six goals and 15 points. Smith has attempted 30 shots and put 13 of those on goal while also being a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty kicks. Smith is tied with Wilson Larson and Manuel Duenas for the team-lead with three assists each.

Gabe Gonzalez, Jace Maxfield and Alex Roegiers have all scored two goals apiece to give them four points. Chris Cook and Marcus Brown each have one goal and one assists for three points. Gonzalex is second on the team with 22 shots and seven shots on goal.

Damir Sabanovic has a 5-4-1 record in 10 starts in goal. He has a 1.42 GAA with 31 saves and four shutouts. Nathan Young has made 10 saves with a 1.28 GAA and two wins in three appearances.
