Volleyball Heads to Dillon to Face Montana Western

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's volleyball team is on the road for their only game this week. Westminster travels to Dillon, Mont. for a Saturday match against Montana Western. The action from Straugh Gymnasium will begin at 5 p.m.

Griffin Notebook
Westminster will hit the road with a 13-8 overall record. They are 6-4 in the Frontier Conference and are in a tight race for the No. 2 position. Carroll (Mont.) sits one game ahead of the Griffins in second at 7-3 while Montana State-Northern has an identical 6-4 record. Lewis-Clark State sits atop the league at 8-2.

The Griffins continue to receive votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll that was released on Tuesday. Westminster was listed among the other teams receiving votes with five points. They have now received votes in each of the previous seven polls. Westminster also sits at No. 35 in the current edition of the Massey Ratings.

Westminster will play its next three matches on the road where they have a 2-3 record this season. If you include neutral site games, the Griffins have a 5-6 record in games outside of the Behnken Field House. They have a 12-1 record in matches in which they win the first set and are 9-0 when they hold a 2-0 lead.

Ashley Marchant leads the Griffins with 236 kills and ranks fifth in the Frontier Conference in that category. Marchant has recorded double-figures in kills a total of 12 times this season and in each of the last eight matches. She also has 11 matches with at least 10 digs with nine double-doubles. The senior also leads the Frontier with 35 service aces and with a 0.43 per set average.

Alexis Aalona has picked up 186 kills and is hitting .202 this year. She has seven matches with double figures in kills and four double-doubles. Katie Vance is third on the squad with 141 kills and Stephanie Jones Morin has recorded 128 kills. Emily Atkinson is second in the league with 790 assists and ranks 35th in the NAIA at 9.88 per set.

Kyndall Kordakis is tops on the team with 357 digs and is third in the conference at 4.41 digs per set. She has nine straight matches with at least 10 digs and 17 matches overall this season. Atkinson has 212 digs and three straight double-doubles. Jones Morin leads the team with 68 blocks with Vance picking up 47.

Against the Opposition
Westminster holds a 16-4 lead in the all-time series against Montana Western. They picked up a 3-0 sweep over the Bulldogs in the Behnken Field House in September. The Griffins have won 16 straight matches in the series with 13 coming in three sets.
