Griffins Host Rocky on Senior Day

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer welcomes Rocky Mountain (Mont.) to Dumke Field on Sunday for a Frontier Conference game at 1:30 p.m. The game is the final home game of the season and the 10 Griffin seniors will be recognized before the start.

The game will be carried live on Griffins TV and have Live Stats available. Fans can find links for both Griffins TV and the stats at WestminsterGriffins.com.

Westminster enters Sunday's game at 9-4-1 overall this season and 0-1 in the Frontier Conference. They currently sit one game behind Rocky in the conference standings with three league games remaining for both teams. Westminster is coming off back-to-back wins in overtime last weekend.

With nine wins, Westminster has now reached that mark in seven consecutive seasons. Going back even further, the Griffins have posted at least nine wins in 13 of the last 14 years. They need just one win for the 11th season with at least 10 wins in school history and the first since 2009.

The Griffins have been good at holding a lead this season and are 6-0 when they hold a halftime advantage. That recorded extends to 8-0-1 when they are ahead or tied after 45 minutes. Westminster is also 7-2 on the year when they attempt more shots than the opposition and have gone 5-1 in games played on Sunday.

The team is averaging 1.71 goals per game and has outscored their opponents 24-18 this season. The Griffins have 16 assists on those 24 goals and have scored on two penalty kicks. They are attempting 13.7 shots per game and have 76 shots on goal. They defense allows 8.2 shots per game and 65 shots on goal.

Ryan Smith leads the Griffins with eight goals and 19 points. Smith has attempted 35 shots and put 15 of those on goal while also being a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty kicks. Smith is tied with Wilson Larson and Manuel Duenas for the team-lead with three assists each.

Marcus Brown, Gabe Gonzalez, Jace Maxfield and Alex Roegiers have all scored two goals apiece. Brown and Gonzalez have recorded one assist each to give them five points. Gonzalez is second on the team with 27 shots and 11 shots on goal.

Damir Sabanovic has a 5-4-1 record in 11 starts in goal. He has a 1.28 GAA with 32 saves and four shutouts. Nathan Young has made 14 saves with a 1.13 GAA and four wins in five appearances.

Against the Opposition
Westminster holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series against Rocky. The two teams split two games last season and the Griffins are a perfect 2-0 in games played at Dumke Field.
