Griffins Win Third Straight with Overtime Strike

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's soccer team won its third consecutive game with an overtime goal from Margo Hickman in the 97th minute against Biola on Friday afternoon.
 
Westminster improved to 3-1 on the season with the 1-0 victory and picked up a second overtime win in the process.  Biola falls to 0-3 with the loss.
 
Hickman got past the Biola defense and put the ball into the net for her second overtime goal of the year.  With the strike she became the first player in school history to score a goal in four consecutive games and now has four goals on the season.
 
The Griffins had several opportunities throughout regulation to find a goal.  They attempted 13 shots in the 90 minutes of regulation while putting eight of those on frame.  They also had another shot ricochet off the post.
 
Hickman attempted a team-best four shots with Jaime Nelson blasting three attempts.  Heather Hillam and Brianna Wilson each got away two shots.
 
Biola's best chance came in the 82nd minute when Griffin keeper Dayna Winter-Nolte pushed a shot by Jessica Austin into the cross bar and then kicked it away.  Biola managed eight shots in the game and had four on frame.  Victoria Dalla Zanna had an open shot at net turned away by Sadie Young in the 27th minute.
 
Winter-Nolte finished the game with three saves while claiming her first shutout and third win of the season.
 
Westminster will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 5 when they host Great Falls at Dumke Field.  The Frontier Conference game is slated for a 1 p.m. first kick.
