SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team got a goal from
Dennis Sellis in the 24th minute and made it hold up for a 1-0 win over Rocky Mountain College on Monday evening at Dumke Field.
With the win, the Griffins even their record at 1-1 on the year while Rocky slips to 0-2.
Skyler Doran set-up the Sellis goal with a slide pass from just outside the 18-yard box. Sellis colledcted the ball and fired past the Rocky keeper Joachim Soderstrom for his first goal of the year.
Neither team saw several scoring chances in the match. While the griffins managed to get away 14 shots, they only put two on frame. Rocky attempted just four shots while putting one on target.
Wilson Larson managed the other shot on goal for the Griffins. Westminster was awarded eight corner kicks and suffered 11 fouls by Rocky.
Nathan Young earned his first win and shutout of the season with one save in the Griffin goal.
Next up for the Griffins is a Sept. 2 match against La Sierra. The contest will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Dumke Field.
