Box Score PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Westminster College men's soccer team defeated Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale the Westminster.
Dennis Sellis scored the game's only goal in the 75th minute. The senior scored for the 12th time this season and recorded his team-best fourth game-winner.
The win gives the Griffins (9-8-1, 4-3-1) a season sweep of Embry-Riddle and improves their chances of qualifying for the Unaffiliated Frontier Conference Tournament next month. Entering the weekend, Westminster trailed Embry-Riddle for the final spot in the tournament field.
Embry-Riddle finished tonight's game with a 16-4 advantage in shots. Westminster managed to put two of their attempts on goal. Sellis and
Jace Maxfield were the only two Griffins two put a shot on frame.
KC John made the start in goal and recorded 10 saves and earned his first career wins and shutout.
Westminster must now wait for the final announcement of the four-team field for the conference tournament. The tournament will be played at Dumke Field with the semi-finals slated for Nov. 10.
