The Westminster volleyball team will take to the road for two Frontier Conference matches this week. The 20th-ranked Griffins will begin conference action at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana on Thursday, September 9. On Saturday, September 11 the Griffins visit Carroll College in Helena to complete the trip.
Westminster heads north with a 4-4 record through the first two weeks of the season. They went 2-2 at the Asics/Crown Plaza Labor Day Tournament last weekend losing both Friday matches against No. 1 Fresno Pacific and No. 2 Concordia (Calif.). The Griffins responded with wins over then No. 6 Biola and Westmont to complete the weekend.
Westminster is currently averaging 12 kills per set while hitting .199. The Griffins have racked up 45 service aces and average 1.5 per set. Defensively they collect 13.8 digs and two blocks per set. As a team, Westminster has totaled 40 or more kills in five of the eight matches this season. They also have five matches with at least 60 digs.
Clotile Harris leads the team with 111 kills and she averages 4.44 per set. The freshman outside hitter is hitting .265 this season to go with her six service aces. Stephanie Jones leads the team with her .279 hitting efficiency and

Scouting Rocky Mountain College
Rocky Mountain enters Frontier action after a 9-3 non-conference schedule. The Battlin' Bears went 1-3 last weekend at the Labor Day Tournament and have lost three straight after starting the season with nine consecutive victories. They received 22 points to rank just outside the Top 25 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll. Jilliam Stanked leads the team with 107 kills and is followed closely by Sara Brunner with 102. Stanek is hitting .427 to lead the conference. Krisitn Barott has 373 assists and 16 service aces.

Scouting Carroll College
Carroll begins the week with a 9-3 record after going 1-3 at the Concordia Labor Day Tournament. After starting 8-0, the Saints have dropped two straight and three of four. They sit as the highest team receiving votes not to make the Top 25 with 98 points. Carroll has three players with over 100 kills led by Sammy Priddy's 113. Haylee Otteson and Kristin Tellin have 112 and 104 kills respectively. Maureen Frauenholtz has piled up 203 digs and averages 4.7 per set.

In the Rankings
The Westminster women's Volleyball team entered the first edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll at No. 20 when it was released by the NAIA on September 7. Westminster received 242 points to enter the poll after not being ranked in the preseason poll that was released on August 16. This is the first time that Westminster has been ranked since the 2008 preseason poll that was released on August 18 of that season. The Griffins join four schools that are ranked inside the Top 25 for the first time this season.
Notable Performance
Clotile Harris was named Frontier Conference volleyball player of the week on August 31. This is her first weekly award from the conference and she becomes the first Griffin to claim the weekly honor this season. Harris averaged 4.76 kills with a .305 hitting percentage. She also averaged 1.41 digs and .59 assisted blocks. She posted 20-plus kills in each of the final three matches, including 25 kills against the College of Idaho on August 27.
Griffins Picked to Finish Fifth
The Frontier Conference released the annual women's volleyball preseason coaches' poll on August 12 and Westminster was selected to finish fifth. The Griffins received 23 points in the poll of the eight head coaches in the conference. Frontier Conference regular season co-champion and conference tournament champion Lewis-Clark State College received six first place votes and was the preseason favorite of the league's volleyball coaches to win the conference title for the 2010 season.

The Griffins return to the Behnken Field House for two Frontier Conference matches. On Thursday, September 16, Montana Western visits SLC for a 7 p.m. match. Montana Tech faces the Griffins on Saturday, September 18 at 2 p.m.
