Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Westminster women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision against Northwood (Fla.) on Saturday afternoon. Northwood scored in the first minute of overtime to hand the Griffins a second consecutive defeat.
Northwood went ahead 1-0 in the 29th minute when Annika Hogberg put one past Westminster goalie
Lindsay Bekken. The Griffins would record the equalizer in the 74th minute on an unassisted strike from
Heather Hillam. It was the second goal of the year for Hillam. Helen Lynksey scored the overtime winner in the 91st minute when she finished a pass from Hogberg.
Northwood controlled much of the game and finished the contest with a 22-7 advantage in shots attempted. The home squad put 12 of those 22 shots on frame and forced Bekken into 10 saves for the Griffins. Northwood also held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Hillam led the Griffin attack with four shots and put two on frame.
Brianna Wilson got two shots away off the Westminster bench as did
Bettina Oesch. The Griffins managed just the two Hillam shots on goal in the game.
Westminster will continue the Labor Day trip to Florida against Saint Thomas on Monday, September 6. That game will begin at noon in Miami.
