SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team travels to Caldwell, Idaho for two games. They begin against Eastern Oregon on Saturday, September 25 at 3 p.m. The Griffins face the College of Idaho on Sunday, September 26 at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Simplot Stadium.
Westminster heads to Idaho with a 4-4-1 overall record and 1-0 in the Frontier Conference. The Griffins picked up a 2-0 win over Great Falls in the conference opener last Sunday. They have won three straight games after suffering a three-game losing skid.
The team is averaging 0.78 goals per game and has scored on eight percent of their shot attempts. Westminster has fired 87 shots this season with 44 of those attempts being on frame. Defensively the opposition is averaging 0.89 goals per contest and 11 shots per outing. Westminster has also taken 31 corner kicks and recorded two assists.
Heather Hillam leads the team with three goals and six points. Hillam has attempted 19 shots and put eight of those on goal.
Sarah Swenson is second on the team with three points and has fired a team-best eight shots on frame.

Vanessa Jordan have each tallied a goal for the Griffins.
Lindsay Bekken has played every minute between the pipes for the Griffins this season. She has made 40 saves to rank 39th nationally and is 41st nationally with a 0.83 GAA. Bekken has posted five shutouts, including three straight, while allowing just eight goals.

Scouting Eastern Oregon
Eastern Oregon heads into the week with the Griffins at 0-2 on the season. They have dropped a 5-1 decision against Whitman and a 3-0 game to Northwest Nazarene. The Mountaineers will face Trinity Lutheran on September 22 before facing the Griffins. Mauriana Gonzalez has scored the lone goal for EOU and has attempted a team-best four shots on goal. Kailey Moss and Chantal Schefers have each seen time between the pipes.

Scouting College of Idaho
College of Idaho brings a 3-3 record into the game with the Griffins. The Yotes snapped a three-game losing skid with a 1-0 win over Carroll College on September 19. They are averaging 1.67 goals per game, but scored five in one game against Great Falls. Macy Egerman leads the squad with three goals and seven points. Kelly Hardegree-Ullman has scored two goals. Melissa Holmes has posted a 1.44 GAA between the pipes.

Getting Their Money's worth
Westminster has played five overtime games in eight contests already in 2010. They have gone 2-2-1 in those games with all the goals coming within the first or final minute of the overtime session. Against Northwest Nazarene, Westminster scored with 48 second left. The loss at Northwood came on a goal just 50 seconds into the start of overtime while the loss at Saint Thomas came with just four second remaining in the second overtime. Vanessa Jordan scored late in the first overtime against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). Westminster is 3-4-4 all-time in overtime games.
National Recognition
Lindsay Bekken was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 5-11. Bekken became the first Griffin women's soccer player to win the national honor, and the first from the Frontier Conference. For the week, Bekken recorded back-to-back shutouts last week as Westminster defeated No. 10 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) on Sept. 10 and Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Sept. 12 both by scores of 1-0. She had four saves against Point Loma and a trio of blocks against Embry-Riddle. In 300 minutes played in the box, the sophomore goalie had 12 saves and allowed just one goal in a 1-0 loss to Saint Thomas (Fla.).
Scoring Streak
After scoring just twice during the first six games of the season, Westminster has now tallied at least one goal in three straight. Westminster had scored two goals against Great Falls marking the first time they had multiple goals in a game this year. The Griffins are 3-0 during the current scoring streak.
When it Counts
Sarah Swenson scored nine minutes into overtime against Northwest Nazarene for the fifth game winning goal of her career. Swenson has scored seven goals during her career and her last four goals have all been game winners. Her five game winners are tied for first in school history.
Unaffiliated Information
The Dakota Athletic Conference, Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Frontier Conference will combine to offer one automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in 2010. The top-4 teams in this group will advance to the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament with the winner receiving the automatic berth.
Looking Ahead
Westminster will return home to face conference foes Rocky Mountain College and Carroll College. The Griffins welcome Rocky on October 3 for a game at noon. On October 5, Westminster will face Carroll in a 3 p.m. game for Senior Day.
