SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team hits the road for the first time in 2010 with three games in three days in the state of Kansas. Westminster opens with Mid America Nazarene on September 17 in Olathe, Kansas. They visit Baldwin City, Kansas on September 18 for a game against Baker University. The trip concludes in Salina, Kansas against No. 21 Kansas Wesleyan on September 19.
The Griffins jumped to No. 15 in the edition of the 2010 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday. Westminster received 350 points in the poll after going 3-0 last weekend to improve to 6-1 on the season. Westminster picked up wins over Point Loma Nazarene, Sterling College, and Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) last week.
Westminster is currently averaging 1.57 goals per game and attempting 15.3 shots per contest. The team has put 47 shots on goal and attempted 25 corner kicks. Defensively they have allowed just 0.57 goals per game while holding the opponent to 7.7 shots per outing. Westminster has saved 84.6% of the opposition's shots on goal.
Dennis Sellis leads the team with five goals and 10 points. He has scored four game winning goals and attempted a team-best 20 shots.
Nic Duncan has posted three goals and his seven points rank second on the squad.

Gary Gonzalez have also scored for the Griffins this season.
Damir Sabanovic and
Nathan Young have split time between the pipes with Sabanovic posting 16 saves and a 0.49 GAA. Young has six saves and a 0.67 GAA.

Scouting MidAmerica Nazarene
MidAmerican Nazarene enters the week with a 3-1 overall record and winner of three straight. They defeated Missouri Baptist 7-0 in its last outing on September 11. Trent Remmich leads the Pioneers with three goals and has a team-best nine points. Luis Pontin and Oumar Seck have scored two goals apiece. Matt Grow has made 10 saves with a 0.73 GAA between the pipes.

Scouting Baker University
Baker University brings a 3-2 record into the week. They defeated Missouri Baptist on September 10 to snap a two-game losing streak. Nate Byarly, Steven Stewart, and Tom Lowndes have all scored two goals apiece to lead the team. Stewart and Lowndes are tied for the team lead with six points. Michael Sheridan has made 19 saves with a 1.25 GAA.

Scouting No. 21 Kansas Wesleyan
Kansas Wesleyan brings a 3-1 record and a No. 21 national ranking into this week's games. KWU split games with Cal Baptist and Azusa Pacific on the road last week, picking up a 2-1 win over Azusa Pacific. Alex Chavez leads the team and ranks ninth nationally with seven goals and also has 15 points. Diego Millan has a 1.20 GAA with 14 saves during his three games in goal.

Weekly Honors
Damir Sabanovic was named the Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. Sabanovic recorded nine saves and two wins for the Griffins during the week. He gave up just one goal on a penalty kick against Embry-Riddle which snapped a 331 minute streak without allowing a goal.
Milestone Game
Sunday's game at Kansas Wesleyan will be the 500th game in school history. The Griffins are 242-219-36 all-time entering the week for a .523 winning percentage. Head coach

Scoring Streak
Westminster sophomore
Dennis Sellis had a streak of five straight Westminster goals snapped against Sterling College. Sellis scored the Griffins only goals against Northwestern (Iowa), Olivet Nazarene, and Point Loma Nazarene. He also scored the first goal against Sterling. Sellis leads the team with five goals this season and is tied for first nationally with four game winning strikes.
Dumke Advantage
Since starting play on Dumke Field in 2006, Westminster has compiled a 31-8-2 record on its home field. They haven't lost more than once on the field since 2007 and have won nine of the last 10 games played there. The Griffins have outscored the opposition 96-34 in the 41 games played at Dumke Field.
Postseason Appearances
Westminster has made 19 postseason appearances in the 27 seasons they have competed. The Griffins have qualified for postseason play every season since 2005. The last two seasons they have qualified for the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament where they have lost in the semi-finals each season.
Unaffiliated Information
The Dakota Athletic Conference, Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Frontier Conference will combine to offer one automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in 2010. The top-4 teams in this group will advance to the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament with the winner receiving the automatic berth.
