BOX SCORE
SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team came up short in an attempt to defeat top-10 ranked teams in consecutive days. The 10th-ranked Benedictine College used goal on a penalty kick in the 11th minute to help them escape Dumke Field with a 1-0 victory. The loss comes one day after the Griffins defeated No. 2 The Master's College and drops Westminster to 1-1 on the season.
Westminster forced the issue in the second half, attempting 10 shots and forcing the opposing keeper into nine total saves. With a steady rain falling, the Griffins just couldn't find the back of the net and lost at Dumke Field for just the eighth time in history.
Dennis Sellis led all players with four shot attempts and putting three on frame.
Nic Duncan posted three shots while
Damian Malouf and
Spencer Luczak took two shots apiece.
Nathan Young made three saves between the pipes in suffering the defeat.
Westminster will return to action on September 3 when they welcome Northwestern (Iowa) to Dumke Field for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
