Men’s Basketball Plays Host to Western and Tech

This Week
The Westminster men's basketball team is back in the Behnken Field House for two games this week. They welcome No. 23 Montana Western to town on Thursday, February 11. Montana Tech makes the trip to Salt Lake City on Saturday, February 13. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.

Westminster moved to a season-best No. 8 in the NAIA top 25 poll that was released on Monday. The Griffins are now 18-5 overall and sit on top of the Frontier Conference with an 8-1 record. They are currently one game ahead of second place Montana Western heading into Thursday's game.

The Griffins are averaging 69.6 points per game while shooting 48.6% from the field. They are 11th nationally in field goal percentage. Defensively they allow just 61.1 points per game to rank fourth in the NAIA. Westminster is also seventh nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 1.19 and 13th in assists per game at 15.87. The Griffins are ranked in the NAIA top 50 in 13 different statistical categories.

Blair Prowse is tops on the team with 339 points while shooting 43.1% from the field and 37.1% from beyond the arc. Ben Walker has 314 points and leads the team with 132 rebounds and his 35 blocks this season puts him first in school history for a career. Weston Anderson is the other player in double figures in scoring at 12.8 points per game. Anderson also leads the team with 89 assists.

Walker is fourth nationally by shooting 64.9% from the field. He is also 19th nationally by shooting 83.9% from the foul line. Prowse is eighth in 3-point field goals made per game at 3.2 makes per contest. Michael Stockton average 1.8 steals per game to rank 48th in the country.

Game Promotions
Thursday game is part of Coaches' vs. Cancer with proceeds from the game being donated to that fund. It is also Mustache & Stunna Shades Night. The student with the best stache and/or outfit wins $50 cash.

Saturday is National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The women's basketball team will be signing autographs following their game. Mention NGWSD at the ticket table and receive FREE admission for any girls and one guest. Any additional family members pay just $1. There will be a halftime shooting contest for all girls during the women's game. It's also “Safari Jungle Theme Night” for the students. The student wearing the best jungle outfit will receive a $50 Best Buy gift card.

Live Media
Live Stats and Live Video will be available for both games this week. The Live Video is $3 per game and has no audio. The Live Stats is a free service. Fans can access these features by visiting westminstergriffins.com.

Frontier Conference Tournament Update
Westminster currently leads the Frontier Conference and would host Montana Tech in an opening round game on March 2. The Griffins have a magic number of one to clinch an opening round home game, and three to host two home games.
