Mesa State Beats Griffins in Three

Box Score GRAND JUNSTION, Colo. – The Westminster women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match at Mesa State on Thursday night. Westminster (8-8) couldn't slow the offense of the home squad in suffering a second consecutive match. Mesa State, an NCAA DII team, hit .315 in the match and held the Griffins to .145.

Westminster dropped the opening set 25-15 after hitting .083 in the set. They were more competitive in sets two and three, eventually falling 25-20 and 25-21. Mesa State hit .371 in the first set and .324 in the second.

The Griffins finished the night with 33 kills and posted 13 kills in sets two and three respectively. Westminster also gathered 44 digs to go with three blocks and two service aces.

Clotile Harris led the Westminster attack with 11 kills. It was her 13th match this season reaching double figures in kills. Harris also added two service aces and five digs. Ericka Evans recorded seven kills and became just the second player in school history to reach 700 career kills and 700 career digs. Megan Evans recorded a season-best 21 assists.

Antoinette McCormick and Sarah Kemp each posted 12 kills to lead the Mavericks. McCormick hit .409 in the match while adding three digs. Whitney Howard recorded 21 digs.

Westminster will return to action when they host Rocky Mountain College in the Behnken Field House on October 14 in a Frontier Conference match.
