SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-0 loss against Rocky Mountain College on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field. The loss is just the second of the season for the Griffins at home. They are now 6-5-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Frontier Conference.
Rocky (7-2, 2-0) got on the board in the first minute when Morgan Bowe sped down the right sideline and buried a shot in the back of the net just 43 seconds into the game. Westminster would control much of the action after that until the 72nd minute when Allie Beckers collected a rebound from a shot by Lauren Brophy and scored to make it 2-0 for the visitors.
Westminster attempted 12 shots in the game and put five on goal while holding Rocky to just five shots. Rocky took advantage of those attempts however, putting four on frame and scoring twice. Westminster also took five corner kicks and suffered 13 fouls.
Jessica Harris led the Griffins with tree shots, including the best opportunity for the team. Harris got past the Rocky defense before misplaying a ball and shooting it wide from 10 yards out.
Sarah Swenson and
Vanessa Jordan each posted two shots with Swenson putting both of hers on frame.
Lindsay Bekken recorded two saves while seeing her shutout streak stop at five games.
Westminster will play at home for the final time this season when they host No. 23 Carroll College on Tuesday, October 3. Five Griffins seniors will be honored prior to the 3 p.m. start.
