Great Falls Sweeps Griffins Behind Two First Half Goals

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Westminster men's soccer team allowed two first half goals to Great Falls on Sunday afternoon and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Frontier Conference leaders. The loss is the second of the season to the conference rivals, and drops the Griffins to 8-8 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

David Jimenez put the host Argonauts ahead 1-0 in the 25th minute when he gathered a pass from Alex Martinez and shot it into the bottom right corner of the net. It became 2-0 in the 40th minute when William Obregon made a penalty kick after a handball on the Griffins in the penalty area.

Westminster would finish with a 12-10 advantage in shots attempted while putting four of those attempts on frame. The Griffins would also attempt five corner kicks, but couldn't find the back of the Argonauts net.

Gabe Gonzalez, Jace Maxfield, and Wilson Larson would all record three shots with Maxfield putting two of his on frame. Larson and Gary Gonzalez would record the other shots on goal for the Griffins. Damir Sabanovic made three saves in suffering the loss.

Westminster will complete the regular season with two game sin Arizona next weekend. They begin on Friday, October 29 against Southwestern (Ariz.) College.

FRIDAY vs. ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE
The Griffins spotted Rocky Mountain College two goals en route to a 2-1 loss in Billings on Friday.  Nick Heffernan put Rocky in front 1-0 with his goal in the 30th minute.  Oliver Gore made it 2-0 when he struck in the 40th minute for Rocky.  Spencer Luczak would put the Griffins on the board just before halftime with is first goal of the season.  Neither team would score in the second 45 minutesand Rocky would earn the victory.

Each team finished with 11 shots while the Griffins put four on goal.  Luczak led the griffins with four shots and two on target.  Jonathan Parker fired three shots.  Nathan Young suffered the loss between the pipes while making one save.
