Box Score PHOENIX – The Westminster women's soccer team defeated Southwestern (Ariz.) 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins set a new school record with the nine goals and the nine goal margin of victory is also the largest in school history. The win improves the Griffins to 9-5-1 on the season with the nine wins matching the school record.
Westminster got the nine goals from nine different players.
Heather Hillam got the scoring started with her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Nicole Taylor,
Megan Maldonado,
Bettina Oesch,
Jessica Harris, and
Lisa Johnson all added first half goals. The Griffins got second half goals from
Danielle Rankin,
Rachel Watson, and
Alyssa Hill.
Vanessa Jordan,
Brianna Wilson, and Oesch all had assists in the game.
Along with setting a new school record for goals in a game, Westminster also set the record for most shots on goal in a game with 29. The 39 total shots are the second most ever for a Westminster team. They also took six corner kicks in the game.
Six different players recorded at least four shots led by the six shots taken by Hill and Rankin. Wilson and Watson recorded four shots apiece.
Elaina Pappas made her first career appearance between the pipes and came away with one save in 83 minutes.
Westminster will next visit Rocky Mountain College on October 21 in Billings, Montana.
