SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team celebrated the career of their seniors by defeating Southwestern (Ariz.) by a score of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field. The Griffins recorded six first-half goals en route to their third consecutive victory. Today's win is also the third consecutive shutout and improves the team to 6-5-1 on the season.
Stephen Littlefield started the scoring when he tallied his second goal of the season in the 12th minute.
Isaac Green put away a penalty kick in the 26th minute to make the score 2-0.
Dennis Sellis scored the next two Griffin goals in the 30th and 32nd minutes respectively. Not to be outdone,
Matt Jimenez scored back-to-back goals in the 35th and 43rd minute. With all bench players playing the second half,
Jay McConagha the seventh goal of the game on his first career touch in the 69th minute.
Westminster attempted 28 total shots in the contest while holding Southwestern to just four of their own. Westminster had 14 different players attempt at least one shot, with nine of them blasting multiple shots.
Val Campbell recorded one save during his 45 minutes between the pipes, running his personal streak to 138 minutes without allowing a goal.
Damir Sabanovic played the final 45 minutes without allowing a goal, running the team's streak without a goal allowed to 273 minutes.
The Griffins play on Dumke Field for the final time in 2009 when they host Great Falls on Monday, September 28. That game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
