SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's soccer team came away with a 3-1 win against Adams State on Friday evening at Dumke Field. The Griffins used two first half goals to build an advantage, then added a third goal in the second half to secure the victory. The win is the third straight for Westminster and evens their mark at 3-3 on the year.
Isaac Green gave Westminster a 1-0 lead with his second tally of the season in the 14th minute. He blasted a shot from 25 yards out that surprised the Adams State keeper and snuck into the top left corner.
Justin Solomon made it 2-0 when he blasted a rebound of a
Jeff Gardner attempt inside the left post. Chase Talbot made it 2-1 when he finished a run down the right side for Adams State.
Matt Jimenez added his first goal of the season in the 84th minute for the final margin.
Westminster controlled much of the action all evening. They finished the contest with an 18-9 advantage in shots attempted and were awarded five corner kicks. Green finished with four shot attempts and
Dennis Sellis had three of his own.
The Griffin backline slowed the Adams State attack, allowing just nine shots.
Val Campbell finished with four saves, including two at close range for his third win of the season in net.
Westminster returns to action on Saturday, September 12 when they host Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) on Dumke Field. That game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
