Men’s Soccer Plays Two Games at Dumke Field This Weekend

This Week
The Westminster men's soccer team is back in action with two games this weekend, both at Dumke Field. The action begins on Saturday, September 5 when the Griffins face MidAmerica Nazarene at 3:00 p.m. Westminster then faces Kansas Wesleyan on Sunday, September 6 at 12:30 p.m.

There is more men's soccer action on Dumke Field this weekend as well. On Saturday, September 5 at 12:30 p.m. Kansas Wesleyan will face Great Falls. Then on Monday, September 7, Great Falls will face MidAmerica Nazarene at 11:30 a.m.

Westminster enters the week with a 0-3 overall record after spending the opening weekend in California. The Griffins played tough against some of the top teams in the west and will look to carry that momentum into this weekend. Isaac Green and Dennis Sellis each recorded a goal over the weekend. The Griffins also threw out a back line of sophomores Jason Tanner and Noah Gayfield, along with freshman Stephen Littlefield a lot this weekend to prepare them for the remainder of the year.

Dumke Field
Spectators coming to the games at Dumke Field are asked to enter through the gate on the west side of the field. All entrances on the east side of the field are for players and officials only. Also, remember that pets are not allowed into the facility.

Live Stats
Live stats will be available for all games on Dumke Field beginning on Monday, September 7. They will not be available for the Saturday and Sunday games this week.

Westminster Men's Soccer Quickly
•The Griffins went 5-1-1 in games at Dumke Field in 2008.

•This weekend will start a five-game home stand for Westminster that continues next weekend.

•Westminster has won seven consecutive home openers including a 5-0 win over Sioux Falls last season.

Scouting MidAmerica Nazarene
MidAmerica Nazarene comes to Salt Lake City at 0-1 on the season after a 1-0 loss at Sana College on August 29. Cam Cundiff led the Pioneers in that game with four shots while teammate Oumar Seck attempted three shots. Luis Padilla came off the bench to attempt three shots and put two on frame. Matt Gow played the second half of the game without allowing a goal and recording three saves.

Scouting Kansas Wesleyan
Kansas Wesleyan enters the week still waiting to play their first game of the season. They will face Bacone College on Wednesday, September 2 before making their way to Salt Lake City. The Coyotes went 12-7-1 in 2008 and were a perfect 9-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Kansas Wesleyan missed out on the NAIA National Championships after losing in the conference championship game.

Offensive Notebook
Isaac Green scored the first goal of the season for the Griffins against Westmont. Green put a direct kick inside the far post from 20 yards out for his second career goal. Dennis Sellis recorded his first career goal when he headed home the rebound of a Tysen Gehring shot in the 18th minute of the game against Azusa Pacific.

Westminster recorded 19 shots over the weekend. Sellis led the team in that department with four followed by Jeff Gardner and Gehring with three apiece. Sellis was also tops with four shots on goal. Gardner and Justin Solomon each had two shots on goal during the road trip.

Defensive Notebook
Westminster played a young back line for much of the weekend. Sophomores Noah Gayfield and Jason Tanner, along with freshman Stephen Littlefield, joined senior Daniel Duke on the Westminster defense. Those four combined to play 946 total minutes, or 87.5 percent of the time.

Val Campbell played every minute between the pipes for the Griffins. Campbell recorded 19 saves and had a save percentage of .697. He saw a total of 54 shots by the Westminster opposition.

Next Week
It's another busy weekend of game at Dumke Field next week. Westminster will face Adams State College on Friday, September 11 at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, September 12, the Griffins face Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at 2:00 p.m. The third game of the weekend for Westminster is on Sunday, September 13, against Bellevue at 1:30 p.m.
