FRESNO, Calif. – The Westminster women's volleyball team dropped two matches at the Sunbird Invitational hosted by Fresno Pacific University on Saturday. Cornerstone University handed the Griffins a 3-0 loss in the afternoon's first match. That was followed with No. 1 Fresno Pacific stopping any upset bid the Griffins has with a sweep. Westminster finished the tournament 1-3 and is now 2-6 on the season.

Westminster put three players in double figures in kills in the 25-20, 25-22, 28-26 loss against Cornerstone. Ashley Marchant led the way with 14 kills and seven digs. Ericka Evans recorded a double-double with her 12 kills and 25 digs. Becky Burke finished with 11 kills and hit .455 in the match.

Fresno Pacific came away with a 25-18, 25-9, 25-16 win to conclude the tournament. Westminster was led by nine kills from Marchant, but they couldn't overcome the .367 hitting efficiency of the nation's top-ranked team. FPU had a 44-24 advantage in kills and recorded 48 digs in the match.

Westminster returns to action on Friday, September 4 when they travel to Irvine, California for the Asics/Crowne Plaza Labor Day Tournament hosted by Concordia (Calif.). The Griffins will play four matches in two days including matches with Vanguard and Cal Baptist.
