AZUSA, Calif. – The Westminster men's soccer team came up a little short against No. 10 Azusa Pacific on Saturday night. The final game of the Cougar Classic was the third game in three days for Westminster. Azusa Pacific used that to their advantage in taking the 3-1 victory, dropping the Griffins to 0-3 on the season.
Cito Soriano gave Azusa a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when he put a rebound of his own shot in the back of the net. Westminster drew even in the 18th minute when
Dennis Sellis recorded his first career goal heading home a rebound of a
Tysen Gehring shot. Alex Earl collected the game winner for APU in the 36th minute when he hit a one-touch from eight yards out. Eric Winbald provided the insurance when his shot from 15 yards was good in the 68th minute.
Azusa finished the night with a 23-6 advantage in shots and a 6-0 cushion in corner kicks.
Val Campbell finished the game with seven saves, but had to settle with his third loss. Sellis put both of his shot attempts of goal.
Westminster will return to the field on Saturday, September 5 when they face MidAmerica Nazarene in the home opener at Dumke Field.
