OMAHA, Neb. – The Westminster men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision against Great Falls at the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon. Great Falls got a goal from Ivan Valencia in the 43rd minute to help No. 3 seed Great Falls knock off No. 2 seed Westminster. Great Falls advances to the tournament championship game to face No. 1 seed Bellevue on Saturday afternoon with the winner earning an automatic trip to the NAIA National Championships.
This was a tough, physical game that featured 37 fouls and six cautions. Great Falls played the final 16 minutes one man down after William Obregon received a red card. Westminster had a few chances during that stretch, but couldn't record the equalizer.
The Griffins recorded 12 shots in the game, putting four on target.
Isaac Green had a team-high three shots and one on goal.
Val Campbell made four saves in taking the loss.
Westminster will now have to wait and see if the 10-7-2 record they compiled is good enough to earn an at-large invite to the national tournament. The 32-team field will be announced on Monday, November 16.
