Volleyball Sweeps Montana Western

Katie Waldie had a career high 10 kills in the win over Montana Western on Saturday.

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's volleyball used one of their better offensive performances of the season to defeat Montana Western 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Nine different players recorded at least one kill as the Griffins won the match 25-19, 25-14, 25-14. The win improves the Griffins to 8-15 on the year and moves them to 5-4 in the Frontier Conference.

Westminster finished the contest with a 35-24 advantage in kills and held Western to -.044 hitting efficiency, the lowest by an opponent this season. Westminster hit .238 in the match, including .333 in the second set. They also posted 52 digs and five blocks.

Katy Waldie finished with a match-high 10 kills to set her career high. Her previous best was five set in a match against Georgetown (Ky.) last season. Waldie hit .714 in the match thanks to no hitting errors in her 14 attacks. Ericka Evans added eight kills and a .368 hitting efficiency. Tahnie Blymiller had 13 digs and setters Jessica Schmidt and Megan Evans finished with 11 and 16 assists respectively.

Westminster will now hit the road for the final time during the 2009 regular season as they travel to Montana for two matches. They face Montana State-Northern on Friday, October 23 and Great Falls on Saturday, October 24.
