Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – Playing at home for the first time since November, the Westminster men's basketball team didn't disappoint the home crowd. No. 2 Westminster jumped out 17-2 and never looked back, cruising to the 71-57 win over Montana Tech. The Griffins (17-1, 3-0 Frontier) shot 61.2 percent in the game and committed just 13 turnovers.
Geoff Payne led the attack with 23 points and seven rebounds. He took control in the second half with 17 points, including a huge dunk at the 13:42 mark to put Westminster up by eight. Wes Anderson dominated the opening half, scoring 12 of his 17 points coming off the bench.
“I thought this was a good win against a good Montana Tech team,” head coach Tommy Connor said. “Our guys need to realize they are going to get everyone's best shot each night, and tonight we responded nicely.”
Montana Tech (8-9, 1-2 Frontier ) got 16 points from Josh Monagle and 13 from Dirk Anderson. After falling behind early, Tech fought back and trailed just 32-29 at the intermission. They grabbed 10 offensive rebounds and turned them into seven points while only having 12 turnovers.
Westminster now faces Montana Western on Saturday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Behnken Field House.
