Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Three players scored in double figures for Westminster as the 13th-ranked Griffins beat Eastern Oregon 78-67 at the Golden Rule Shootout on Friday evening. Westminster outscored the Mountaineers 38-24 in the first half and eventually built a 20 point advantage in the win. Westminster is now 7-0 on the season while Eastern Oregon slips to 4-1.
Geoff Payne scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds for Westminster. The Griffins shot 57.4 percent from the field and had a 32-20 advantage in the paint.
Jordan Jacobs went for 15 points and eight assists, connecting on three from beyond the arc. Westminster had a 27-16 advantage in bench scoring, led by 11 from Wes Anderson.
Kris Groce led Eastern Oregon with 20 points, but was just 5-of-11 shooting. The Mountaineers shot just 34.5 percent from the field and only 26.7 percent in the first half. Jeremy Templeton had 11 points and Neil Frye and Jordan Gregg had 10 apiece. Eastern Oregon forced Westminster into 17 turnovers and turned them into 27 points.
Westminster will next face the College of Idaho on Saturday, November 22. That game will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. to conclude the Golden Rule Shootout.
