SALT LAKE CITY - Sunday's soccer game between Westminster and Great Falls featured a little of everything. So it was fitting that a deflected rebound turned into an own goal for the Great Falls game winner. Kantey Locoh blasted a shot from the top of the box that hit the crossbar, then deflected off the foot of a Westminster defender and in giving UGF a 1-0 overtime win.
Westminster falls to 8-6-2 overall with their first home loss of the season. The win improves Great Falls to 8-7-1.
It appeared that Westminster was going to take control of the game when Anthony Burrola received a red card in the 68th minute. Great Falls coach Tim Brooks was also sent off for arguing about the call. Westminster controlled the next few minutes with the man advantage, but in the 78th minute a bizarre miscommunication earned Dino Busuladzic his second yellow card and he was sent off. Both teams played the final 12 minutes and all four minutes of overtime with 10 players.
Westminster held an 11-8 advantage in total shots and also took eight corners to just five by the Argos. Mark Stoker led Westminster with four shots, but only one on frame. Val Campbell recorded two saves in defeat. The game also saw 34 total fouls called to go with three yellow cards and the two red cards.
Westminster will conclude the regular season with a game in Prescott, Arizona on Saturday, November 1 against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical. Westminster claimed a 2-1 win over the same Embry-Riddle squad on September 13 in Salt Lake City.
