Eight Griffins Named Scholar Athlete

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Westminster College men's soccer team had eight student-athletes named a 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete, the national office announced.  In total, 287 student-athletes across the NAIA received the honor.

Adam Bullough, John Burton, Gabe Gonzalez, Ryan Holmes, Jace Maxfield, Alex Roegiers, Jason Tanner and Nathan Young were all named to the Scholar Athlete list by the NAIA.  Westminster has now had 81 student-athletes named a Scholar Athlete in the history of the program.  The have had 35 players named to the annual list since 2008.

This marks the second consecutive season that Tanner has been named to the Scholar Athlete list.  He becomes the 22nd Griffin to be named a Scholar Athlete at least twice in their career.  Bullough, Burton, Gonzalez, Holmes, Maxfield, Roegiers and Young all made the list for the first time in their careers.

Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
