Women’s Snowboard Claims USCSA National Championship

SUNDAY RIVER, Maine – The Westminster women's snowboard team claimed a second consecutive national championship at the USCSA National Championships last weekend. The Griffins won the overall title after one first place finish and two second place finishes in the three events.

Westminster had five total points to finish three points ahead of Sierra Nevada College and Duke. This is the second straight national championship in just two years of the snowboard program. They join the women's alpine ski teams the only women's programs at Westminster to win a national title.

The Griffins claimed the team title in the Slopestyle event. Hallie Beaver led the team with a fourth place finish behind her 70.33 in the first run. Claire Gentile finished in fifth place with a 64.67 during her first run. Desiree Diselrod posted a 61.33 in her second run for a seventh place finish with Lisa Swift completing the Griffin team in 10th place with a 56.67.

Westminster finished second as a team during the Halfpipe competition behind Sierra Nevada. Diselrod led the Griffins with her third place finish with 400 points. Beaver finished in the fourth position with her score of 250. Gentile recorded 160 points to place eighth overall while Swift finished ninth with 145 points.

In the Giant Slalom Westminster came away with a second place finish with 28 points, trailing the 26 points from Duke. Diselrod was the top finishing Griffin in the ninth position with a time of 167.14. Gentile finished 14th overall after her time of 176.34. Swift finished in 178.70 and in the 15th position after going 81.03 in the first run for the seventh fastest time of that run.

Diselrod finished second in the individual overall standings with 19 total points. Arielle Shipe from Sierra Nevada claimed the individual championship.
