Scott Iverson came to Westminster College after serving three years in the United States Marine Corps where he was named to the First Team All-Marine Corps Basketball Team in 1964. Prior to the Marine Corps, he attended Cerritos Junior College in California where he was the men’s basketball MVP in 1959-60. While attending Westminster, Scott lived in Carlson Hall and was a resident assistant. Iverson competed on the men’s basketball and was named Honorable Mention NAIA All-American in 1964-65 becoming Westminster’s first such honor. That season, he was the team’s leading scorer averaging 20.4 ppg and led the Parsons to a 19-8 record.
Scott majored in physical education and minored in history, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. In 1966-67, Iverson served as an Assistant Coach to first year Westminster head Coach Tom Steinke where the team finished with a record of 18-5. After Westminster, Scott attended BYU on a graduate assistantship and completed a Master of Science degree in physical education and a graduate minor in Counseling and Guidance in 1968. For over 30-years, Scott taught high school social studies, physical education and coached boys' basketball and baseball in four different states eventually retiring from the Yuma Union High School District in Yuma, Arizona in 1998. During his coaching career, Scott’s teams won three state championships in basketball, they qualified for several state tournaments and he was recognized as a co-coach of the year in the state of Utah in 1984.
Scott and his wife Winnie and have been married for 40 years and have lived in St. George, Utah since 2004.
