Rebekah Steenblik Beck joined the Westminster College women’s basketball program for the 2000-01 season after helping Olympus High School to the 2000 state championship. She became the first player to play four seasons with Westminster at a time when none of the women’s players were receiving scholarships.
During her freshman season, Westminster saw the program turn a 4-16 inaugural campaign into a 16-12 season and a winning record in the Frontier Conference. Rebekah would start all 117 games the team played during her Griffin career and she is still the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,308 points.
Rebekah is the only player in school history to be named First Team All-Frontier Conference during all four seasons she played at Westminster. She was named Second Team NAIA All-American in 2003, becoming the first woman All-American at the school, and she earned Honorable Mention All-American her other three years as a Griffin. Rebekah was also twice named a NAIA Scholar-Athlete and three times Academic All-Frontier Conference.
After scoring 15.3 points per game as a freshman, Rebekah exploded the next three years. She would average 21.6 points per game as a sophomore and then up her average to 22.5 points per game as a junior. Those are the third and fourth highest scoring averages for a season in school history. Rebekah would average 19.2 points per game as a senior.
While ranking first in school history in total points, Rebekah is second in scoring average at 19.7 points per outing. She has made and attempted more field goals than any other Griffin, and her 51.6 career field goal percentage is the second-highest in the program’s history. Rebekah is also the school’s leader with 966 rebounds, 662 defensive rebounds and 304 offensive rebounds. She is also second all-time with 216 steals and 77 blocked shots.
Rebekah set a then school record when she recorded 39 points in an 86-60 win over Great Falls on January 31, 2002. She would collect a career-best 17 rebounds against Carroll on December 21, 2004 and also a career-best seven steals versus Lewis-Clark State on January 24, 2004. On Jan. 1, 2002, Rebekah became the player at Westminster in any sport to be named a National Player of the Week by the NAIA.
Rebekah graduated from Westminster in 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. After graduation, Rebekah continued her work with the family owned business. She married Lars Beck in 2002, and the couple now has one son, Kameron, and two daughters, Haylee and Marissa.
